MYSTERY MINERAL DAY

This exciting event takes place twice a year, and our next session is just around the corner!

What to Expect:
Visitors can bring up to 5 items for identification. Our team of experts will be on hand to help you discover the origins and characteristics of your specimens. This is a fantastic opportunity for rock and mineral enthusiasts of all ages to learn more about their collections.

Learn the Mohs Hardness Scale with a Geologist!

Exclusively for Rice Museum Members

In these FREE sessions, Rice Museum Members will get hands-on instruction in using the Mohs Hardness Scale, one of the key tools used by geologists to identify minerals. This free small-group experience will empower you to start identifying minerals on your own.

We’re offering two free exclusive sessions just for Rice Museum Members, led by our volunteer geologist and retired professor, Roy.

Session 1: 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Session 2: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

Each free session is limited to 20 participants – advance registration is required. These free sessions are for Rice Museum Members only. Be prepared to show your membership card, or give the name on your membership, when signing in.

  • Face Painting: Transform into your favorite animal, mythical creature, or superhero! Our talented face painters will create colorful, creative designs to delight kids and adults alike.

  • Raffle Baskets: Take a chance to win amazing prizes! Enter our raffle for a shot at themed baskets packed with unique goodies, museum gifts, and surprises for the whole family.
